Extendair Cartridges Duration at Depth

$

Some RB designs incorporate the ExtendAir Cartridge Scrubber system to extract CO2 from the loop. Both Navy and DR (O2ptima specific) have done tests on the system and theoretical duration times have been established for different depths.

Has anybody dived the system beyond 55m (165 ft) and experienced any scrubber breakthrough?

If Yes, please note Water Temperature, Dive Time and Depth as the incident occurred.

If No (and dived the unit below 165 ft) please indicate what, in your opinion, constitutes a save Stack time for dives beyond 55m.

The reason for the request is that I am trying to establish a proven Stack time for dives beyond 55m. (At present I am limited to 48m (144 ft) and use a stack time of 240 min at Temp of 18 -25 Deg C with a safety margin of about 25%.

Anybody have a charging attachment they no longer need? With all the defunct X1s and X-Links that people post about, there have to be some charging attachments available.

Two spaces available this weekend Plymouth

Al and I can't make diving with top gun this weekend as I slipped a disk last week and still not recovered.

Our spaces are available on a boat taking right in the 65 meter range - marks to be decided based in conditions.

Top skipper, good boat and great conditions forecast so gutted can't do it.

65 a day per diver. I've got to cover the spaces though so a good offer will secure.

Myth busting - Scrubbers

Hi

I am just curious as I would like to learn more about my life support system.

I just talked to a buddy of mine, he just finished his MOD 3 course. Their instructor told them that packing a scrubber very tightly causes two issues:

1. The scrubber will be less effective as the pellets are now touching one another more, leaving less surface to scrub the CO2.

But is this a myth? If you are packing the sorb hard, it will leave room for extra granulates, meaning the canister will contain more scrubber material. Will the one thing not out-weigh the other?

2. Packing the scrubber will increase WOB.

Is this a myth? I am not looking for "it feels like there is more WOB" answers, did anyone actually test this to see if there is any measurable difference? I think that WOB will increase, but I could be wrong...

Give me your thoughts...

/Christian

rEvo HUD

Has anyone had a problem with the HUD's LED lights? We have 2 units here that have received the Dream P upgrade ( not that should matter), anyway one HUD's LED has stopped displaying red and the other units HUD has stopped displaying green.

Although not a show stopper, I have gotten used to double checking the HUD and seeing the green LED after checking PPO2 on the Predator it is kinda of pain in the arse pulling out the dream and not being able to rely on the HUD.

OEO has been contacted and they advise that it is warranty, now do I disconnect from the dream or just remove the HUD?

Greetings from the sunny heights of Teesside,

This is my first post on CCX. I've signed up because I want to gain a broader knowledge about CCR diving.

I have completed the IANTD Inspiration (MOD 1) and dive a Classic and a modified Draeger Ray mCCR. I love both units but I only have a total dive time of about 30 hours so I'm sure I've got a lot to learn.

Regards

Matt

HPNS and ACh?

Just a question for the hyperbaric docs on the forum. Could HPNS tremors be from the helium molecules inhibiting acetylcholinesterase from hydrolyzing ACh? Thanks.

Scrubber cover question ???

$

How is the metal "washer" attached to the center of the scrubber cover? This is what the hold down nut touches when you install the cover. Is it just glued on or what? If so, what kind of glue?

This is not my unit, so I can not be blamed for it.

It did however, once belong to Swadiver and that might be the entire problem. :furious:

I'm tired of wrx...

Some days ago I dropped on a local wreck to tie off for a group of divers. O became bored and decided to simply drift off the wreck and see what came along. I shot a bag so the capt would know where I was and just drifted along a couple of feet off the sand. It was alot of fun to get off the beaten path. I found a few cool shells and a weight belt that I tied to the line going to the lift bag and let it just drag along in the current. There were small coral heads that would pop up, some big rocks that seemed out of place and even part of a very small boat as well as 3 golf balls. Where ever there was relief off the sand there was a lot of life.
I did this dive on OC as my rEvo is having it's regs serviced. I think when I get my regs back I'm going to slide along in the sand on CCR and see what's out there. I'm a bit tired of wrecks.

Inflator nipples for lift bags

Looking to retrofit two of my older lift bags to a nipple inflator similar to the halcyon/hog nipple inflators, and I am at a complete loss as to where to get them. Short of asking the manufacture directly, is there anywhere anyone sells these, as I have 2 i would like to upgrade to this style and i would like to have a spare one sitting around just incase.

Thanks

Steve
