Pasadena California visit

Guys

I have to attend a weeks course at Caltech in Pasadena California in early October. Can anyone offer advice / guidance on whether I am likely to be able to arrange some local diving? I already googled the local dive shops and sent emails out but I am not getting much response. Obviously I would be there with limited time and kit but was hoping to do something, even if just a shallow bimble on single tank open circuit.

Appreciate any thoughts or advice anyone can offer

Cheers

Hi all, I just got a shiny new inspo with back mounted counter lungs for the Chris Brown Tech rental fleet (hurrah!)

Has anyone come up with any clever ideas for routing the hoses / manual adds etc.

Obviously the plastic hose clips will have to go, what suggestions do you have?

Looking forward to trying the unit out in the water!

homebuilders lathe query

I recently acquired a lathe/mill and am finally getting around to building my first home built rebreather. i am not new to a lathe, but my experienc has always been with a large engine lathe and used only on steel and brass. Since I intend to machine all kinds of materials including ABS, Acetol, PVC, HDPE, Acrylic, Aluminum, Brass, Stainless Steel, and anything else that pops into the equation: Can any of you give me any tips on turning/milling speeds that works best for various materials. Maybe I can learn a bit from others instead of wasting too much material.

edit - threading advice accepted also :-)

Hollis 212 DC3 Regulator With Maxflex Hose

Built with the same quality as the DC1, without the swivel turret, the DC3 is the ideal 1st stage for double cylinder configuration as well as perfect for single cylinders.

This reg set is designed for those who believe keeping it simple is best, but they also appreciate a few useful features in a quality regulator. Provided with a standard length Maxflex braided hose for maximum performance and comfort.

212 Second Stage
  • Pneumatically balanced second stage
  • Patented Dynamic Adjustment once set automatically maintains inhalation
effort throughout the dive by compensating for depth changes.

  • High performance over-balanced first stage provides progressively greater intermediate pressure as depth and gas density increases for superior gas delivery under the most extreme conditions
  • Designed to withstand the rigorous CE standard for coldwater performance
  • Environmental sealing prevents internal corrosion, contaminants, and icing of the first stage

Patented Orthodontic Mouthpiece for comfort and reduced jaw fatigue

Easy grip controls for precise adjustment even while wearing gloves

ADV Removal

Anyone have a breakdown of how to remove the ADV so I can put it on the BMCL's that I have on order? It seems pretty logical...it just seems to screw onto a base that it inserted into the counterlung itself...but I'm wondering if there is anything tricky to this before I begin the endeavor?

Technical Diving from Leeds

Hello all,

I have until recently been doing my technical diving with a few groups of people on the East coast of Scotland who have generally been within a couple of hours drive which is easy enough to do. I am now moving to Leeds so East Scotland is a bit too far really so am trying to work out where I should be heading. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Hammerhead Rev-D reboot

On my last dive at Lake Otjikoto my Rev-D Primary handset suddenly decided to reboot.

Dive Details: MOD: 45m (135ft) / TDT: 51min / Dive Time at Reboot: about 30min / Temp: 20 Deg C

The unit recovered almost immediately. After carefully comparing all displayed data with my VR3 backup computer, I noticed that the Dive Time had reset to 0. The PO2 compared ok to the secondary handset. Everything else (including Deco info) seemed to be as before.

I believe that the reboot was caused by a drop in power due to excessive use of the backlight. (I will bring it down from 30s to 20s) The battery (UltraFire 14500) has a protection mechanism which upon over discharge / Over Current Discharge will switch off the output current.

And that brings me to my question: Can anybody tell me if we can still trust the deco info on the REV-D upon a reboot? (If it stays off, no problem we know the drill). Would you classify a reboot of the Primary Set as a Bailout scenario?

Hyperbaric Oxygen food for what ails you!

6 1/2 years ago, I suffered a horrendous femur fracture in the Dominican Republic while swimming with North Atlantic Humpback Whales. I ended up on crutches for 18 months and went through a couple of different surgeries with a titanium rod installed in my leg. 6 1/2 years later, I am finally pretty much back to normal and can do almost everything that I could do pre-accident.

During the initial healing process, I continued to dive quite often. I mentioned to my wife as well as to my orthopedic surgeon that I actually felt as though my leg made much more progress healing when I was diving regularly and especially when it was exposed to prolonged hyperbaric exposures on CCR. Of course, my wife thought that I was looking for virtually any excuse to go diving, but my orthopedic surgeon actually thought there was some validity to my claim.

The following link gives a little more credence to my purely anecdotal data that hyperbaric O2 is good for what ails you!

servicing a qc6 swagwlok fitting

Does anyone have any idea how to/if you can service the swagelok qc6's? I don't want to start taking my current one apart (it works fine or did), just curious if they are a user serviceable item or if they get tossed aside after awhile.

I take care of it etc, but was thinking while I am waiting for my bov to arrive, I should probably dust off the qc6's from my old meg bov and get them ready, and was thinking I wonder if these are actually serviceable.

thanks
